Joseph – From Pit to Prison to Second in Command

Joseph – From Pit to Prison to Second in Command

Genesis 37, 39–45 (NIV)

oseph was his father Jacob's favorite son, which made his ten older brothers jealous. They hated him even more after Joseph shared dreams that his family would bow to him. One day, they plotted to kill him but instead sold him into slavery to merchants heading to Egypt.

In Egypt, Joseph served faithfully in Potiphar's house but was falsely accused and thrown into prison. Even in prison, God was with him. Joseph interpreted dreams for fellow prisoners. Two years later, Pharaoh had disturbing dreams that no one could interpret. The cupbearer remembered Joseph.

Joseph was brought before Pharaoh and explained that God was showing Pharaoh that seven years of abundance would be followed by seven years of famine. Joseph advised storing grain during the good years. Pharaoh was amazed and made Joseph second in command over all Egypt.

When famine struck, Joseph's brothers came to Egypt for food. They didn't recognize him. After testing their hearts, Joseph revealed himself and forgave them. He said, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to save many lives.”

Moral: God can turn the worst circumstances into something beautiful. Trust His plan, even when you don't understand it.
