The Butterfly's Struggle
James 1:2-3 (NIV)
A man found a butterfly cocoon and noticed a small opening. He watched as the butterfly struggled for hours to force its body through the tiny hole. Then it seemed to stop making progress. The man decided to help. He carefully widened the hole with scissors. The butterfly emerged easily, but its body was swollen and its wings were small and shriveled. The man expected the wings to enlarge, but they never did. The butterfly spent its life crawling instead of flying.
What the man didn't understand was that the struggle to squeeze through the tiny opening was God's way of forcing fluid from the body into the wings. The struggle was necessary for flight.
Moral: Sometimes our struggles are exactly what we need to strengthen us. Without the battle, we cannot soar.
