Adam and Eve

Genesis 2-3 (NIV)

The Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. God planted a garden in Eden and placed the man there. He caused every tree that was pleasant to the sight and good for food to grow out of the ground, including the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." So God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and made a woman. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman."

The serpent was more crafty than any other creature. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" The woman said they could eat from any tree except the tree of knowledge, lest they die. The serpent deceived her, and she ate the fruit and gave some to her husband, who also ate. Their eyes were opened, and they realized they were naked.

God called to Adam, "Where are you?" When Adam admitted he hid because he was afraid, God asked, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree?" Adam blamed the woman, and the woman blamed the serpent. God pronounced judgment on the serpent, the woman, and Adam. He made garments of skin for them and banished them from the garden to prevent them from eating from the tree of life and living forever in their fallen state.
